The Mendhams: Rural Suburbs in Morris County
By BlueBurbia.com
Mendham Borough is the town center of what most people refer to as "Mendham." In reality, there are two Mendhams, the Township and the Boro, and residents there will be quick to point that out in conversation. As with other communities in Somerset Hills, it is defined by beautiful rolling hills and lush woods.
Some of the largest mansions currently under construction in Somerset Hills are in Mendham Township, with asking prices that can approach or exceed $7 million. However, there are single family homes that start anywhere between $250,000 and $350,000.
One of the realities about life in the Mendhams is that there is no train station. So, if you have to commute to New York, remember that you might have to drive to a town that has a station should you want to avoid driving into the city. Options considered by residents include Morristown, Convent Station, Summit or Jersey City.
While it's sometimes hard to pinpoint the "heart" of a community, one would have to admit that The Black Horse Inn is the sentimental favorite in Mendham. The valet parking, the charming layout, the option of a pub and a pricier, more formal alternative at the "Inn" combine to make a truly unique establishment. Many people from the Somerset Hills and beyond call the Black Horse their favorite restaurant.
